History
The Museum of Modern Art was founded in 1948. It collects and safeguards the works of Croatian and foreign artists of 20th century. Besides this, it also collects the works of artists who lived in Rijeka from the end of the last and up to the middle of this century.
The treasures of The Museum of Modern Art are deposited into five collections. Due to the lack of exhibiting space there is no permanent exhibition. The works from the collections are exhibited occasionally at the thematic and monographic exhibitions.
The exhibition programme of the Museum of Modern Art in Rijeka focuses on the presentation of phenomena in the contemporary art. The work of modern and renowned artists is exhibited as well as that of young artists from Croatia and abroad. Researches are done into the works of lesser known artists such as Kalina, Lahovsky and Smokvina |
