2nd BIENNIAL OF QUADRILATERAL BQ_2
(Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Slovenia)
Cultural projects, presentation of contemporary visual arts' achievements and opening the space for promoting the cultural values which the society gains through art, altogether consolidate foundations for future collaboration in an era of globalization processes.
The second Biennial Quadrilateral orients a contemporary discourse towards a theme
of culture hero, continuing to thematize universality and actuality surpassing
the event's geographical definition. The concept is based on a mechanism where
each participating state proposes its national selection wherefrom, through a
joint decision, four artists get selected. This reflects an active communicational
sensibility between four European countries: Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, and Croatia.
Regional connecting is a significant contribution to a lively development of
the contemporaneous visual expression pertaining to the strategy of production
and presentation of contemporary art. Collaboration between artists and
curators unites the presentation of contemporary visual art and subtly forms
a platform for regional collaboration. By organizing this event, Museum of Modern
and Contemporary Art got situtated as a specific zone, contributing to a
contemporary language of visual culture through exhibition realization. Moreover,
the Museum transformed into a place of cultural production and vivacious
international and interdisciplinary exchange.
By problematizing the theme of culture hero the Museum became a place which
generates the models of critical research and re-examines criteria for art activity.
The Ministry of Culture supports collaborations in the spheres of visual
culture and promotion of innovative collaboration models when realizing
complex art events, which rise as a moving power, opening debates on
important social issues though art, realizing models of collaboration and knowledge
exchange. By emphasising the multilayered significance of such meetings and
communication, equally as the international, interstate cultural collaboration, Biennial
of Quadrilateral is an event contributing to deepening of mutual trust.
