Norwegian artist TORBJØRN RØDLAND presents his works
A Norwegian artist TORBJØRN RØDLAND will present his artwork at the Rijeka 's Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art on Wednesday, 12 October 2005 at 19.00. His one-month residence in Rijeka has been organized within ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE programme of the Nordic organization NIFCA, in collaboration with the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. Presentation of the work, accompanied with video and photo projection will be delivered in English, no translation available. Admission is free.

TORBJØRN RØDLAND (born 1970 in Stavanger, Norway; education: Cultural Studies at Rogaland University Centre, Stavanger 1989-91) belongs to a generation of modern Norwegian artists who at the beginning of the 90ies of the 20 th century have recognized photography as an independent art expression method. Within his generation, Torbjørn Rødland stands out as a key personality and one of the very few who have achieved both national and international reputation. He has been exhibiting photos from the middle of the 90ies, while more recently he's got into experimental video as well. Rødland uses various photographic procedures. Most often he does mysterious portrays of people immersed into the nature and covers themes such as memories, conflict, transience, classic opposition between principles of good and evil. When portraying the nature he partially continues art tradition of Norwegian national romanticism adding however personal comments of the clichés and meta-presentation of the religious and sentimental themes, with peculiar dose of irony.
